This Vertical Screen Commission is part of an ongoing series, presented with our partners Create Berwick. Vertical videos have become the standard online, viewed mostly on smartphones and boasting short and punchy content reminiscent of shop window displays.

Vertical Screen Commissions can be viewed any time, in the shop front window of The Burr of Berwick venue space, also home to the Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival offices.

I’m Uma, an artist, writer, and award winning game designer interested in animals, horror, and structures which support/inhibit solidarity. Everything I make is about some combination of love, grief, hallucination, and an excess of joy.

My practice is orientated around images and text, manifesting as animation, drawing, games, and publishing. Additionally, with my collaborator Belladonna Paloma I make video games about the divine and occult providence of transfemme existence.

At The Burr of Berwick on 22 Bridge Street, we are holding regular film meet-ups and workshops exploring moving images with group members and invited guests.

The informal meetings are a chance to connect with peers, discuss, and share ideas with a leaning toward artists’ film and screen-based work.

The workshops aim to explore film from different angles, including writing, animation and game design, community work and more. Workshops form a part of each facilitators’ practice, and will participate in the creation of a Vertical Screen Commission.
