The Moving Garden

Flowers may have scientific names and hallucinogenic properties just as they may appear enchanted, glowing, casting spells. Through gestural zooms, swellings of sentimental music, and playful acting, the film moves joyously between the realms of romance, tender comedy and fairy tale. The trail of a routine botanical tour is animated by the energy of an erotic, volatile eden that can barely contain its sweetness – an energy that passes half-detected through people enthralled or bored by the park guides, people asleep on the nearby seashore, and through overgrown paths and pods of swimming dolphins. Within this shared collective (un)consciousness, blooms a critical alertness to the tension between lush potential and oppressive limit.

Inês Lima (Setúbal) is an independent artist that explores the moving image, soundscapes, writing and film programming. She has been working the analog medium as an experimental vehicle in her work, intersecting personal themes with nature and ecology, traditions and memory, antagonisms and superstitions.

Her work has been shown at national and international film festivals, and exhibited in cultural venues such as the Cinemateca Portuguesa, MALBA Museum (Argentina) or the Tabakalera Cultural Center (Spain). She worked as a film programmer at the IndieLisboa International Film Festival between 2019 and 2022.
